History |
The Radnor Fire Company of Wayne was chartered in 1906 for the purpose of the control of fire. It has a continuous record of outstanding service since that time.
In response to a serious need and though the efforts of local business firms and interested citizens, Radnor Ambulance was organized in 1947 to provide emergency ambulance service to our community.Radnor Ambulance has always received its financial support through voluntary contributions from the citizens of our service area. More recently, it began to bill insurance companies and patients for services rendered to supplement it's operations budget. Radnor Ambulance has never had to seek tax dollars to support its operations. |

|
In its first year of service, the ambulance responded to 150 calls. By 1971, the number of daytime routine transfer calls had increased to the point that, in spite of active recruiting of volunteers, Radnor Ambulance could not provide the outstanding service for which it was known. It contracted with a private ambulance service to handle all routine transfer calls. In 1974 the feasibility of hiring two people to work during weekdays was studied. A favorable report led to the employment of two people in June of 1975. By 1979, the requests for services had increased to the point where it was necessary to place a second ambulance in service. By 1982 the call volume had increased to 1500 calls per year. Two additional employees were added in 1992. The call volume increased to 1800 calls per year. |

|
Upon occupying the new firehouse in 1997, a fifth employee was hired to work as a houseman. This individual is responsible for responding to the fire calls and secondary ambulance calls. In 1998, the Radnor Fire Company Ambulance responded to 1950 calls.
Radnor Ambulance is proud of its skill and training of its volunteers and paid personnel, and of the tradition of outstanding service provided to the community. |
