SWINE FLU INFORMATION

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY FROM THE FLU

    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.
    • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
    • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
    • If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
    • If you become sick with fever plus a cough and sore throat or have trouble breathing, seek medical care right away. Tell your doctor if you have had contact with a sick person or farm animal while traveling.

The Radnor Fire Company was awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000.00 from the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.

PA State Representative William 'Bill' Adolph was instrumental in facilitating the process for this grant money being awarded.

The grant money will be used to make the fire company building more energy efficient by installing a new HVAC system. The goal is to reduce the overall expense of heating and cooling the building. Any remaining funds will be used to assist with overall building maintenance and upkeep.

The members of Radnor Fire Company are grateful and most appreciative of Rep. Adolph's dedication to the first responder community.

QRS PROGRAM REVIVED

Monday, February 2, 2009
-
As of February 1st, the Radnor Fire Company & Ambulance will have two additional vehicles available for emergency medical responses.  The Quick Response Service (QRS) at RFC all but died when Rescue 15 was replaced in early 2005, and state recognition lapsed in 2007.  The new Rescue 15 (QRS-15A) as well as 15-8 (QRS-15) were recently licensed by the Delaware County EMS Office and finally added to the county dispatch system this week.  Based on statistics provided by neighboring squads, we anticipate upwards of 100 dispatches in the first year.  Both vehicles are equipped with a full compliment of BLS gear, including AED, Oxygen, Epi-Pens and CPAP - quickly bringing life-saving equipment to patients when a Radnor ambulance is unavailable or delayed.  A special thanks to the Office of the Fire Chief for making this program possible.

EMS CREW WITNESSES TRUCK CRASH
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
-
Just as the morning rush was coming to a close Ambulance 15 was dispatched for its second ambulance to cover a medical call. While transporting the patient to a local hospital the crew witnessed a large box truck strike the King of Prussia Road bridge and overturn around 09:08 hours. Crews requested the fire department and EMS to respond. Squad-15 arrived and found one of the saddle tanks had ruptured and leaked a large amount of diesel fuel. Rescue-15 arrived shortly thereafter and assisted the Squad with spill control. No severe damage was reported to the bridge. Trucks striking this bridge is almost a weekly event. All crews cleared the scene at 10:32 hours.
